Esthetics is the non-medical care of the skin, the biggest organ in the body.  It requires constant attention to keep it looking young and beautiful.

Since health is the foundation of vibrant skin, the science of esthetics includes anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and theory relative to esthetics. An esthetician may be the first to detect medical conditions that require the attention of a dermatologist. The work involves touching and physical contact with your clients and requires professionals who truly care.

Esthetician courses have proven to be very popular. They may be similar to cosmetology programs but may be shorter to focus only on spa treatments. These include waxing, facials, wraps, makeup, and other skin-care services. As you continue to develop your skills, you could find a way to help your clients look younger longer, a need in great demand. A complete education should also include classes on spa management and employment development.

Classes should cover such diverse subjects as rules and regulations of the cosmetology industry, cosmetics chemistry, health and safety standards, the different types of facials, eye-brow artistry, tweezing, waxing, makeup techniques, communication skills, reception and office techniques, and even modeling.

Instruction should include lectures and demonstrations, but focus on student participation, to give the student practical experience, in preparation to become a true professional.
